Review analysis

The review score

First of all, let's see how the product scores across multiple different pharmacy sites. We have looked at four different ones to ensure we have a big enough sample size. The following sites: Pharmica, Chemist-4-u, Chemist Direct and medino. A total of 964 reviews in total.

The results show that customers score Dermol 500 high across all sites with a small dip with Chemist 4 U. The reason for this may be caused by the rounding method used so all in all the customer satisfaction for the product is very high.

What the customers are saying

If we dive deeper into what the customers are actually saying the following conclusion can be drawn:

  • Dermol 500 lotion is often recommended by doctors and dermatologists for various skin conditions including Bullous Pemphigord, dermatitis, varicose eczema, dry skin, and eczema.
  • It is effective in managing and treating severe skin conditions, as well as minor skin irritations and dryness.
  • Users find it helpful for preventing their skin from getting sore from regular soap. Some even use it as a soap substitute or a replacement for shaving foam/gel as those products can cause irritation.
  • The lotion is well-tolerated, causing no stinging or discomfort even on tender skin.
  • It provides relief from itching associated with dry skin conditions.
  • It is used as a face and body wash, shower lotion, and an emollient. Some users have found it useful as a daily moisturiser.
  • The lotion can also be used for ageing skin, as it leaves the skin feeling clean and moisturised.
  • One user reported that the lotion brought up a rash and stinging sensation on his face after a couple of days' use, though it seemed fine on his hands.
  • The product is generally considered good value for money and can be bought online easily.
  • The lotion is described as being non-oily, quickly absorbing, and providing instant hydration and relief from discomfort.
  • Dermol 500 lotion was found to be effective in managing Keratolysis when used along with Euercin 10% urea cream.
  • Some users who were initially prescribed the lotion have continued to purchase it for its effectiveness.
  • There was one review that appreciated the pump dispenser, allowing for easy application.

Negative reviews

We of course also investigate any particularly negative reviews. The following could be found:

Despite most of the reviews being positive, there were a couple of users who needed more time to determine efficacy, or needed additional products or medication for severe conditions, indicating that the effectiveness might vary depending on the severity of the skin condition.

Most of the reviews for Dermol 500 lotion are overwhelmingly positive. However, there is one user named Gavin B, who reported that the product caused his face to develop a rash and a stinging sensation after a couple of days' use. Nevertheless, he also mentioned that the lotion seemed to work fine on his hands.

Another user, Kevin E, noted that the product is light and absorbs quickly, which is good for days when his condition was not severe, however, he needs something with more substance for when his skin condition is very severe. Therefore, while this isn't a completely negative review, it does suggest that Dermol 500 may not be as effective for very severe skin conditions, or its effectiveness might vary depending on individual skin conditions.

Stand-out reviews

Then we look at the individual reviews that really stand out in terms of helping the customers improve their condition:

Dermol 500 Lotion FAQ

Finally, we sat down with our Superintendent Pharmacist, Alessandro Grenci, to discuss some of the most common questions customers have in regard to Dermol 500 Lotion:

How should Dermol 500 Lotion be applied correctly and optimally?

Make sure to wash your hands before application. Dermol 500 Lotion should be applied directly to affected skin areas, gently smoothing it in and allowing any excess to absorb naturally without vigorous rubbing. I also always recommend that if using Dermol alongside other treatments, apply them separately to avoid mixing. The lotion can also replace regular soap or shower gel for washing, despite not producing foam. If used as a shower gel, apply it to wet skin and let sit for a few minutes before washing it off with luke warm water. After washing, pat the skin dry softly, as rubbing might exacerbate dry skin conditions. Remember, this lotion is for all ages and the key to maximum benefit is regular and as-needed use.

What are the possible side effects of Dermol 500 Lotion and what should one do if one experiences them?

I want to start by saying that it is not a very common side effect and that these can be reduced by patch-testing the cream before adding it to a larger area of the body. Simply find a spot on your leg or e.g. inside of your elbow to add a coin’s size worth of cream. Repeat for up to a week and monitor for any reaction such as red or itchy skin.

Some individuals may have severe allergic reactions, including facial swelling, red itchy skin rash, breathing difficulty, feeling faint or dizzy, a metallic taste in the mouth, or even collapse. If such reactions occur, discontinue the lotion and seek urgent medical help. The lotion can also, rarely, lead to skin reactions such as redness, irritation and itching, especially with excessive use on folded skin areas. If one's skin condition worsens or side effects become unbearable, stop usage and consult a healthcare professional. If swallowed accidentally and feeling unwell, medical attention should be sought without inducing vomiting.

What does it mean that Dermol has antimicrobial properties?

Antimicrobial properties mean that Dermol kills microorganisms or stops their growth on the skin. This can help when treating skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis as it helps combat bacteria on the skin that can worsen the symptoms. The antimicrobial properties can also help prevent inflammation caused by scratching itchy skin. In my experience, these properties help in reducing inflammation which sometimes can be caused by scratching.

How can the itch-scratch cycle associated with dry skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis be managed effectively?

To manage conditions such as eczema and dermatitis, it is crucial to break the itch-scratch cycle. While scratching may momentarily alleviate itching, it unfortunately inflicts further damage on the skin, increasing the risk of infection, and subsequently escalating the itchiness. One effective strategy is to focus on reducing the itching, thus negating the urge to scratch. This can be achieved through the consistent application of emollients or moisturisers, which help to soothe the skin.

What happens if I apply too much Dermol 500 Loition?

There is no added risk associated with applying too much Dermol lotion. The skin will become greasy if it cannot absorb the cream but none of the ingredients in Dermol Cream is harmful should you apply too much cream. Simply wipe off excess cream if necessary.
