Description
AQUACEL Ag Hydrofiber dressing combines the gelling properties of Hydrofiber technology with the power of silver ions, offering a unique solution for wound care. The dressing fibres gel upon contact with wound fluid through hydrophilic action and swell, creating a large fluid absorption capacity.
The AQUACEL Ag dressing, which is the same as the AQUACEL dressing but with the addition of ionic silver, supports a moist wound healing environment. It contains ionic silver that is effective against a broad spectrum of wound pathogens, including MRSA, VRE, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which can cause infection. The dressing has a higher absorption and retention capacity for exudate than most alginates and gauze, reducing maceration by trapping exudate in its fibres and away from the skin. Its cohesive gel allows for easy, atraumatic removal. Additionally, the dressing is soft and conformable, enabling it to make intimate contact with the wound surface and reduce the "dead space" where bacteria may reside.
Indications:
AQUACEL Ag dressing is suitable as a primary dressing for wounds that produce moderate to heavy exudate and where there is an existing or increased risk of infection. It can be used for:
- chronic wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and fungating lesions.
- acute wounds, such as post-surgical wounds, abrasions, lacerations, and partial thickness burns. Additionally, it has potential applications in excised abscesses, excised pilonidal cysts, cavity wounds, sinus tracts post-procedure, suture lines, burns, abrasions, pin (ortho) and tube (g-tube, PEG) sites, finger/toe degloving, and circumcision sites.
Ingredients
AQUACEL Ag Hydrofiber dressing contains 1.2% ionic silver and Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose.
Usage and Instructions
To apply the AQUACEL Ag dressing, first, cleanse the wound thoroughly with saline and ensure that the surrounding skin is dry. Apply the dressing directly onto the wound, making sure to leave at least a 1cm overlap onto the surrounding skin. If using the AQUACEL Ag dressing ribbon for cavity wounds, loosely pack the wound to about 80% capacity, leaving at least 2.5cm outside the wound for easy retrieval. Finally, cover the AQUACEL Ag dressing with an appropriate secondary wound care dressing.
Warnings
Individuals who have had an allergic reaction to silver or sodium carboxymethylcellulose should not use this dressing, as it may cause sensitivity.
