How do Budesonide nasal sprays work?
Budesonide belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. It reduces inflammation and swelling in the nasal passages, which helps to relieve the congestion, itching, sneezing, irritation and discomfort of rhinitis.
What is hay fever?
Hay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis, is a common allergic reaction that can cause symptoms such as sneezing, a runny or stuffy nose, itchy eyes, nose, or mouth, and watery eyes.
When is seasonal allergic rhinitis more common?
Seasonal allergic rhinitis is more common in the spring, summer, and early fall.
What causes hay fever symptoms?
Hay fever symptoms are usually caused by an allergic reaction to pollens from trees, grasses, or weeds, or to airborne mould spores.

Active ingredient: Each Spray contains 64 Micrograms of Budesonide
Also contains Disodium Edetate, Microcrystalline Cellulose (E460), Carboxymethyl-Cellulose Sodium (E466), Glucose Anhydrous, Hydrochloric Acid, Polysorbate 80 (E433), Purified Water and the Preservative Potassium Sorbate (E202)
Usage and Instructions
Use only in the nose.
Shake before use.
Adults including Elderly and children over 18 years:
Use Two sprays into each nostril regularly each morning, may be reduced to one spray into each nostril if symptoms controlled.
Important: Pump may need to be primed before use (see enclosed instructions).
After using the spray: Wipe the nozzle carefully with a clean tissue or handkerchief, and replace the cap.
If the spray does not work and it may be blocked, clean it as follows. NEVER try to unblock it or enlarge the tiny spray hole with a pin or other sharp object because this will destroy the spray mechanism.
The nasal spray should be cleaned at least once a week or more often if it gets blocked. Follow the instruction in the patient information leaflet.
It's fine to use Benacort nasal spray alongside antihistamine tablets or eye drops to treat your hay fever if you need to.
Warnings
Do not use more than two sprays in each nostril in a day. If symptoms persist for longer than two weeks consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not use continuously for more than three months without consulting your doctor.
Do not use in children and adolescents under 18 years.
Do not use if:
You recently have had a nasal surgery or recent prolonged nose-bleeds or any other nasal problems.
You are taking other medications, particularly other corticosteroids, cobicistat or protease inhibitors such as ritonavir for HIV infection, antifungals ketoconazole and itraconazole.
This product should not be used for longer than 3 months without consulting a doctor.
Side Effects
The following are some of the side effects known to be associated with Benacort:
- Dryness in the nose.
- Stinging sensation in the nose.
- Sneezing.
- Nosebleeds.
