What symptoms or conditions can be treated with Canesten Cream?
Canesten Cream is an antifungal medication that is used to treat a range of fungal skin infections, including ringworm, athlete’s foot, fungal nappy rash and fungal sweat rash. It can also be used to relieve the external symptoms of thrush, such as irritation of the vulva or the end of the penis.
What is the active ingredient and how does it work?
The active substance in Canesten Cream is clotrimazole, which belongs to a group of medicines called imidazoles and is an antifungal agent that fights the cause of fungal skin infections.
How long does it take for Canesten Cream to work?
The duration of the treatment with Canesten Cream depends upon the type of infection, but generally, a minimum of two weeks is required, although up to four weeks may be necessary.
How can you help the treatment to work?
Although the infected area may itch, try not to scratch it to prevent the infection from spreading further. Keep the affected skin areas clean, pay particular attention to drying the skin, but avoid excessive rubbing, and do not share towels, bath mats, etc. with other people as you could spread the infection.
What are the common causes of fungal infections?
Fungal infections are caused by various species of fungi that are present in the environment such as on plants, dirt, and household surfaces. Additionally, some fungi naturally reside on the skin and inside the body. Factors like a weakened immune system, excessive sweating, and prolonged use of antibiotics can increase the risk of developing a fungal infection. Furthermore, certain lifestyle habits such as wearing tight-fitting clothes and not drying skin folds properly after bathing can also make a person more prone to fungal infections.
What are the symptoms of fungal nappy rash in babies?
If you notice severe, bright red elevated patches with fine peripheral scale in the nappy region, especially in the skin folds around the groin and tops of the thighs, along with vesicles (small, raised cysts or fluid-filled blisters) and pustules around the rash, and the rash lasting three days or more despite home treatments, then your baby might be suffering from fungal nappy rash.
