Ingredients
Each tablet contains 10mg of the active ingredient Cetirizine Dihydrochloride.
This medication contains lactose.
Usage and Instructions
Take your tablet as directed, with a sip of water.
For children aged 6 to 12 years, take 5mg, twice daily (as half a tablet, twice a day).
For adults and children aged 12 years and over, take 10mg (once daily as one tablet).
For patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, take 5mg (once daily as a half tablet).
If you or your child suffers from kidney disease, speak to your doctor before trying this product so they can adjust your dosage accordingly.
Warnings
Do not take Cetirizine 10 mg Tablets if you:
- Have severe kidney disease (severe renal failure)
- Are allergic to Cetirizine or any of the other ingredients of these tablets (including lactose)
- Are allergic (hypersensitive) to hydroxyzine
- Are allergic (hypersensitive) to drugs from the piperazine family, for example: buclizine, cyclizine, meclozine or levocetirizine
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Cetirizine 10 mg Tablets if you:
- Have kidney problems (you might need to take a lower dosage)
- Have predisposition factors of urinary retention (eg: spinal cord lesion, prostatic hyperplasia) as cetirizine increases the risk of urinary retention
- Are epileptic or at risk of convulsions
- Are currently taking other medication
Do not give to children below 6 years of age.
Do not use this product if you're currently pregnant or breastfeeding, unless under the advice of your doctor.
If you are going to have an allergy skin test, you must stop taking Cetirizine three days before the test, as this medicine may affect the results.
This product shouldn't cause drowsiness but you may find you are affected. Avoid alcohol and other depressants. If you feel as though you've been affected, do not drive or operate machinery.
Side Effects
You may experience some side effects when using this product, although not everyone will get them.
At the first signs of a severe allergic reaction stop taking the tablets and call 111 immediately. These symptoms include: difficulty breathing and the swelling of your neck, throat, tongue, face, eyelids or lips.
The following side effects have also been reported:
Although this medication is classified as non-drowsy, some patients have still reported feeling sleepy and dizzy, and some reported getting a headache, dry mouth, nausea (feeling sick), sore throat, diarrhea, and swelling or irritation inside the nose, although these last two symptoms are most common in children.
Less common side effects include itching, rash, abdominal pain, agitation, the feeling of weakness, the feeling of being generally unwell, and tingling in the hands and feet.
If you notice any of these side effects, stop using this medication and speak with your GP.
The list of possible side effects carries on, but they are rare or very rare as in they only affect 1 in 1000 or 1 in 10,000 people. Some of these include:
Tachycardia (heart beating fast), oedema (swelling due to water retention), liver function abnormal, convulsions, weight increased, aggression, confusion, depression, hallucination (hearing or seeing things), insomnia (difficulty sleeping), urticaria (swelling, redness, and itchiness of the skin), increased risk of bleeding, eye problems, fainting, involuntary movements, abnormally prolongued muscular contractions, tremor, altered taste, tics (sudden abnormal repetitive muscle movement).
