What are common symptoms of oral thrush?
Symptoms of oral thrush include the following:
- White, slightly raised areas on the tongue, inner cheeks, roof of mouth, gums, tonsils, or back of throat
- Raised spots resembling cottage cheese
- Cracking and redness at the corners of the mouth (angular cheilitis)
- A cottony sensation
- Loss of taste
What causes oral thrush?
Thrush is caused by an overgrowth of the candida fungus which is normally present in small amounts in your mouth, digestive tract, and skin, and kept in balance by other bacteria in the body. However, certain illnesses or medications such as corticosteroids or antibiotics can disrupt the balance, leading to an overgrowth of the fungus and causing thrush.
How does Daktarin Oral Gel help treat oral thrush?
Miconazole, the active ingredient in Daktarin, treats oral thrush by killing the candida fungus which causes the infection, easing symptoms such as redness, soreness, and discomfort in the mouth.
What does Daktarin Oral Gel taste like?
The cream is sugar free but has a sweet orange flavour.
Ingredients
Miconazole 20mg per 1g of Gel
Usage and Instructions
Adults and elderly, and children aged 6 years and over:
Squeeze a small amount of Daktarin Sugar Free 2% Oral Gel onto a clean finger and apply to the affected area four times daily.
Children 4 months - 6 years:
Squeeze a small amount of Daktarin Sugar Free 2% Oral Gel onto a clean finger and apply to the affected area twice daily.
Warnings
Do not give to children under 4 months.
Continue to use for up to two days after the symptoms have cleared. If symptoms persist consult your doctor or pharmacist. For further information, see enclosed leaflet.
