This allows the body to absorb the water and salts that are usually lost in diarrhoea. Loperamide hydrochloride is effective in treating both short-term diarrhoeas in adults and children aged 12 and over, and IBS diarrhoea in adults and young people aged
How long does it take for Imodium to start working?
Imodium usually starts to work within 1 hour of taking it and can help to make your symptoms better. While the exact timing may vary depending on the individual, in most cases, Loperamide provides fast relief by slowing down the movement of your gut and reducing the frequency and urgency of bowel movements. It is important to follow the instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist and not exceed the recommended dosage to avoid any potential side effects. 18 and over who have been diagnosed with IBS.
What are some possible causes of diarrhoea?
Diarrhoea can be caused by a variety of factors such as an acute infection in the bowel, overuse of certain medications such as antibiotics, excessive intake of fibre-rich foods including dried fruit or pure fruit juice, overuse of laxatives, anxiety and stress, or the consumption of caffeine, artificial sweeteners, alcohol, or sweets containing sorbitol.
How can I effectively manage an acute diarrhoea attack?
To control an acute diarrhoea attack, it is important to allow your body some rest and refrain from consuming solid foods for a short period, which could range from a few hours to a full day, based on the intensity of the symptoms. Adequate hydration is crucial during this time, so make sure you drink ample fluids, ideally between 1.5 to 2 litres (6-8 glasses) daily. In cases where symptoms persist, you may consider using an over-the-counter anti-diarrhoea medication like loperamide
