What is hyperhidrosis and what are the causes?
Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterized by excessive sweating beyond what is necessary to regulate body temperature. Primary hyperhidrosis is caused by overactive eccrine sweat glands due to faulty nerve signals and tends to affect the palms, soles, underarms, and sometimes the face. On the other hand, secondary hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying medical condition or medication, which may result in sweating all over the body. Conditions that may cause secondary hyperhidrosis include diabetes, menopause hot flashes, thyroid problems, certain types of cancer, nervous system disorders, and infections. While primary hyperhidrosis has no medical cause and can run in families, it is important to seek medical attention if experiencing excessive sweating, as secondary hyperhidrosis may indicate an underlying health issue.
What are the main symptoms of hyperhidrosis?
The primary symptom of hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that occurs without any external triggers such as heat, exercise, anxiety or stress. This type of sweating typically affects the hands, feet, underarms, or face and occurs at least once a week while awake. In addition to excessive sweating, other symptoms may include skin infections and skin maceration, which is the softening and breaking down of the skin due to prolonged exposure to moisture. The condition can also cause social isolation and embarrassment, which can affect daily activities.
What is the active ingredient in Odaban Spray and how does it work?
The active ingredient in Odaban Spray is 20% aluminium chloride in a silicone and pure alcohol base. Odabans drying effect is achieved by the formation of poral "plugs" that are made up of a combination of aluminium and skin proteins. These plugs do not stop the sweat glands from working, but they prevent excessive sweating and the subsequent discomfort, odour, and staining of clothes. The aluminium/protein complex is insoluble, ensuring that there is no absorption of aluminium through the skin into the bloodstream.
How is Odaban Spray applied?
Odaban Spray is an easy-to-use pump spray that must only be applied at bedtime, when relaxed. Before application, the skin must be perfectly dry to avoid skin irritation, and a hairdryer or talcum powder can be used to dry the skin. Odaban Spray must be applied sparingly, and one spray is usually sufficient. Women and those with sensitive skin should apply Odaban Spray indirectly with a cotton wool pad.

Odaban Spray is suitable for all skin types, and it is safe to use all over the body, but take care not to apply to large skin areas, mucous membranes or broken skin. Odaban is specially formulated for individuals with excessive perspiration, but anyone can use Odaban, especially if looking for protection that can last up to a week.
How often should Odaban Spray be applied?

However, it may be necessary to continue with nightly applications until the problems are resolved. Once protection is attained, try to gradually reduce the number of weekly applications. The frequency of application with Odaban will often vary with each individual, just take your time and gradually reduce the rate and amount of product used to achieve and then maintain protection.
Ingredients
20% w/v aluminium chloride hexahydrate dissolved in pure ethyl alcohol containing a protective silicone.
Usage and Instructions
Using Odaban Spray is simple. The product must only be applied at bedtime, when relaxed. It is very important the skin is perfectly dry before application, as Odaban will react with moisture to cause skin irritation. Use a hairdryer or a little talcum powder to dry the skin prior to application and afterwards in the event of over application.
Odaban Spray must be applied sparingly; one spray is usually sufficient. Women and those with sensitive skins should always apply Odaban Spray indirectly with a cotton wool pad. When applying to the underarms, apply only to the central armpit area (3 to 4cms diameter) where most of the sweat glands are located. The skin must be washed the following morning; other products are unnecessary but can then be applied without interaction.
Men’s skin is generally thicker than women’s and the presence of underarm hair will also help protect their skin from over-application with Odaban Spray. One or two sprays can therefore be applied (from about 10cms) directly to the central armpit area. Any excess application can be absorbed with a tissue.
Warnings
Do not apply to large skin areas and do not apply to mucous membranes or broken skin.
Odaban Spray is safe to use all over the body but take care to use a cotton wool pad, especially around the area of the head.
