How does Panadol Advance work?
Containing paracetamol, a mild analgesic and antipyretic, Panadol Advance works by decreasing prostaglandins production in the brain and spinal cord, thereby alleviating pain and fever.
Ingredients
Active ingredient: Paracetamol 500mg.
Other ingredients: Tablet core: Pregelatinised starch, Calcium carbonate, Alginic acid, Crospovidone, Povidone (K-25), Magnesium stearate, Colloidal anhydrous silica. Film coat and polish: Opadry white (YS-1-7003), Carnauba wax, Purified water.
Usage and Instructions
Adults and children aged 16 years and over: One or two tablets up to four times daily as required.
Children 10-15 years: One tablet up to four times daily as required.
Always read the label.
Warnings
- Do NOT give to children under 10 years;
- Do NOT exceed the stated dose and do NOT take for more than 3 days; If symptoms persist after this time, consult your GP;
- Do NOT drink alcohol or take other Paracetamol-containing products whilst taking this medicine;
- Talk to your doctor if you take too much of this medicine, even if you feel well, due to risk of serious liver damage;
Take special care and speak to your GP if you suffer from:
- Liver or kidney disease;
- Heart disease
- G6PD deficiency
- alcohol dependency;
- Sugar intolerance;
- Diabetes
Inform your doctor if you are currently taking or have recently taken any medications, including those obtained over the counter. Interactions between medicines can alter their effects. It is particularly important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking:
- Antidepressants, such as amitriptyline or imipramine.
- Barbiturates like phenobarbitone.
- Anticonvulsants, for example, carbamazepine or sodium valproate.
- Metoclopramide, used for nausea and vomiting.
- Domperidone, for heartburn or nausea.
- Colestyramine, for gall bladder issues or lowering blood fat.
- Zidovudine, used in HIV infections and AIDS.
- Anticoagulants, like warfarin, for blood clot prevention.
- Flucloxacillin (an antibiotic), particularly due to a serious risk of blood and fluid abnormalities such as high anion gap metabolic acidosis, especially in severe renal impairment, sepsis, malnutrition, chronic alcoholism, or when using maximum daily doses of paracetamol.
Side Effects
Serious:
- Pancreatitis or Hepatitis: abdominal pain, tiredness, fever, nausea, yellowing of skin or eyes;
- Skin rashes and itching;
- Difficulty in breathing;
- Swollen face;
- Unusual bruising or bleeding and mouth ulcers or bleeding gums;
If you experience any of the above symptoms after taking Paracetamol go to the nearest hospital IMMEDIATELY.
