Does Viagra work from the first time?
Not for everyone. Some people need to take Viagra a number of times on different occasions before it works for them. This is common so don't panic if it happens to you. If it doesn't work the first time, you can increase the dosage to 50mg (2 Tablets at the same time) the following time as long as you don't take more than 100mg (3 Tablets at the same time) in a 24 hours period. If after several attempts on different dosing it still doesn't work, you should contact one of our pharmacists to discuss alternatives.
How long does it take for Viagra to work?
This medicine will only help you get an erection if you are sexually stimulated, so to be clear, you don't just get an erection after taking Viagra if there is not sexual stimulation. The amount of time this medicine takes to work varies, but it normally takes between 30 to 60 minutes. You may take it up to 4 hours before sexual activity.
Does Viagra cause face flushing or the face to go red?
Yes, this is one of the most common side effects. If you experience face flushing, taking a lower dosage might help.
Can I drink alcohol if taking Viagra?
Alcohol can affect your ability to get an erection and it can interfere with Viagra, so I recommend avoiding alcohol. If you normally drink a small amount of alcohol before having sex (i.e. one glass of wine), I recommend considering another type of Erectile dysfunction medication, Vardenafil (Levitra), which is known to interact less with food and alcohol.
It is important speak to your GP as soon as possible within the first 6 months of using Viagra Tablets to rule out any possible underlying conditions causing erection problems, even if you are or feel healthy.
Erectile dysfunction may be an early sign of:
- Heart and blood vessel problems.
- Diabetes.
- High blood pressure.
- High cholesterol.
- You should discuss your symptoms and these conditions with your doctor if you have not already done so.
What else can I do to improve issues with getting an erection?
For as redundant as it may sound, exercising regularly, reducing stress, giving up smoking, and avoiding excessive alcohol use are key. It's also very important to monitor how you feel, and if you are feeling depressed or anxious, talk to one of our pharmacist or your GP, who will be able to provide you with further advice.
Sexual activity can put extra strain on your heart. If you have a heart problem or think you might have a heart problem you should tell your pharmacist.

- Are currently taking any other medications or have any medical condition, even the one not listed in the leaflet
