What is Peptac Liquid used for?
Peptac Liquid is used for the treatment of symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux such as acid regurgitation, heartburn, and indigestion, which may occur, for example, following meals or during pregnancy.
What is acid reflux and what are common symptoms?
Acid reflux disease occurs when the lower oesophagal sphincter (LES) does not close all the way or opens too often, allowing stomach acid to move up into the oesophagus. This can cause symptoms such as heartburn, and burning discomfort in the chest.
What are the active ingredients in Peptac and how do they work?
Peptac Liquid contains three active ingredients: sodium bicarbonate, sodium alginate, and calcium carbonate. These ingredients work together as reflux suppressants to form a protective layer on top of the stomach contents to prevent stomach acid from escaping the stomach and causing discomfort. Sodium bicarbonate neutralizes stomach acid, while sodium alginate creates a foam barrier to prevent acid reflux. Calcium carbonate also helps to neutralize stomach acid, providing relief from heartburn and acid indigestion.
